Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in inquiring about becoming a volunteer with the City of New Port Richey. The City's Community Volunteer Corps is designed to coordinate and manage citywide volunteer efforts that support or enhance existing City services provided to the community. Utilizing our residents' broad and diverse skills and knowledge, the City can supplement its limited resources and enhance current as well as developing needs, and our residents can enjoy fellowship and contact with other residents while contributing a much-needed service to the municipality in which they live. Thus, the City's Community Volunteer Corps is a win-win experience for both the City and her residents. Please note that these are volunteer opportunities, and individuals in these positions are not paid for their volunteer hours and receive no benefits.

Volunteers will be recruited by the City on a proactive basis with the intent of broadening and expanding the volunteer involvement in our community. Volunteers may be recruited either through an interest in specific jobs or an interest in helping in a particular department. Some volunteer opportunities are on a regular basis and some are on a project or event basis. Volunteer applications are not limited to those who live within city limits. You will see our volunteer needs for specific departments or functions on our website. You can volunteer for as many hours a week as you choose, volunteer seasonally, or volunteer for specific events. Please remember that not every volunteer will automatically be selected for an assignment of their choice.  Aditionally, volunteers must go through a selection process.

All potential volunteers must complete a Volunteer Corps Application. Volunteer Corps Application forms can be obtained from the Human Resources Department and various City Departments, and on the City webpage. The potential volunteer must also complete and be cleared through a criminal background check.

Volunteer eligibility is typically for individuals age 16 or older. Volunteers under the age of 18 will be required to have a City release form signed by their parents and notarized. Minors between the ages of 14 and 16 may be eligible to volunteeer for some City programs, and certain requirements and/or restrictions will be placed on these assignments.

Each potential volunteer will have an interview with the department in which he/she is considering volunteering. In addition to the interview, the department may conduct reference checks.

The City does not accept court-ordered community service as part of the Community Volunteer Corps.

City Boards and Committees frequently need citizen members. Those interested must be able to attend the scheduled meetings of that board or committee.
